I see why you like this one more. The way dark trees border the image on each side makes good visual balance. This image also shows less of the canopy, making it not as visually heavy at the top and firmly anchored at the bottom. The fallen tree also adds much interest, dividing the background and foreground, and also providing something other than verticals. For some reason I also really like squiggly little branch on the tree that's right behind the fallen tree. The contrast in values is also a strong point in this photo, along with the variety of values.
